ORY SHIHOR
Piano

ORY SHIHOR is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning pianist and renowned pedagogue. Mr. Shihor is noted as ‘boldly individualistic’ (New York Times) and ‘not afraid to take risks’ (The Washington Post). He has impressed audiences and critics from coast to coast and throughout Europe, Australia and Asia.


He is the co-founder of the Ory Shihor Institute which provides piano performance training and exams for students of all levels, teacher certification, and a pre-college program for advanced young pianists with a focus on college audition preparation. 
Mr. Shihor was the winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, winner of the Gina Bachauer Juilliard Prize, first prize winner of the Washington International Piano Competition and prize winner at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition.

Throughout his career, Mr. Shihor has performed in prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including The Kennedy Center, Aspen Music Festival, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, The Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Tonhalle in Dusseldorf, Germany and 92nd Street “Y” in New York, among many others.

In eight critically acclaimed concerts in Los Angeles, Mr. Shihor performed Beethoven’s entire 32-sonata cycle. Among his extended engagements with orchestras, Mr. Shihor appeared as the featured guest soloist with the Liège Royal Philharmonic of Belgium on its 15-concert North American tour. Ory Shihor’s 2018 concert-drama Last Thoughts: Schubert’s Final Works, written by Hershey Felder, premiered at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. 

As an educator, Mr. Shihor’s students have garnered impressive credentials as winners of top prizes in prestigious international competitions such as the Naumburg and are regularly accepted to top conservatories such as Curtis and Juilliard, among others. Prior to co-founding Ory Shihor Institute, Mr. Shihor was dean of the Colburn Music Academy, which he founded in 2010, and served as professor of piano at the Colburn Conservatory for 10 years. 

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, he came to the United States at age 15 to study at the Curtis Institute of Music and later graduated from the Juilliard School. Ory Shihor is a Bösendorfer and Yamaha artist.
